How do I get there?
Public transportation in Germany is excellent. Heidelberg is best reached by train. Frankfurt is about 60 minutes by train. During the day a train leaves every hour. For exact times you can use the Travel Planner of the German Rail Frankfurt(M)Flughafen (Station in Frankfurt Airport) -> Heidelberg Hbf (Heidelberg Main Station) or just show up at the station. Here is the daily train schedule from Frankfurt Airport to Heidelberg that you can print. Reservations are not needed (you can go to the counter and purchase your ticket at the station). If you are coming by car you can use another popular AOLServer based application to plan your route. Parking is difficult/expensive in Heidelberg so please make sure to ask your hotel about parking.
Where will the .LRN meeting take place?
All meetings will take place at the Maarstaall (Royal Stables) which is part of the university. This stronghold makes up part of the ancient city walls and is on the bank of the idyllic Neckar river. Marstall can be reached best by bus, taxi, or by foot. Both bus #41 and #42 take you from the transtation in the direction of Universitätsplatz (University Square) and get off at the Marstallstrasse stop (which stops right in front of the venue). If you are walking please refer to the map. This is a detailed map of where the conference will be held within Marstall.
Dinner: Brauhaus Vetter (Neuenheim), Neuenheimer Landstraße 5, 69120 Heidelberg
Where will the OpenACS meetings take place?
Same place.
Dinner: Kulturbrauerei, Leyergasse 6, 69117 Heidelberg
Where will the bug bash, OpenACS training, and informal focus meetings take place?
These will take place from Sunday to Wednesday, venue is still pending. There will be rooms with network and computers available for informal meetings and presentations till Wednesday if needed. In addition, on Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday there will be an OpenACS course for OpenACS newbies (based on problem sets and best practice).
You can book your hotel online using the Heidelberg Visitor's Bureau website (Hotels in Heidelberg Old City and City Center are all within walking distance there is a good bus and trolly system as well). If you have troubles with the website, try calling the visitor's office and having the reserve a room for you: +49-6221-142224. We will try to find cheap places to sleep for people that need help and are willing to sacrifice comfort (e.g. we have reserved 10 spots in the youth hostel for the weekend). If you have any questions or problems, please contact us. The closest hotels are the one the have a 69117 zip code (the same as the venue) on this map and list of hotels (NOTE: the map is from the tourist office, but the numbers on the hotels are not all correct so please go by postal code and/or street adress. Please note that almost any hotel will do (this is tourist season), Heidelberg is small and the public transportation is good.
Please post general questions in the .LRN forums. If you have any other questions you can contact us at elearning-team@listserv.uni-heidelberg.de
